Audio CD:  "Train Yourself to Relax"

Picture
The "Train Yourself to Relax" CD, developed by Dr. Melnychuk, will help you learn:

PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION - Progressive relaxation is a good starting point for relaxation training.  To relax muscles progressively, you begin by tensing and relaxing the major muscle groups of the body.  It is best to start with the muscle groups around the head, shoulders and neck then work down to the arms, chest, back, stomach, legs and feet.  It is important to know that, after tensing, a muscle will automatically relax more deeply when released.

DEEP MUSCLE RELAXATION - Deep muscle relaxation is a form of progressive relaxation but it does not include the tensing part of the progressive relaxation exercises.  Instead, you learn to rely on deep breathing, mental awareness, and calming words to achieve a state of relaxation.

AUTOGENIC RELAXATION - Autogenic relaxation depends on a relaxed body state and a passive, accepting attitude.  It is practiced by focusing self-suggestions of warmth and heaviness in specific muscle groups throughout the body.

SENSORY IMAGE RELAXATION
- Sensory imagery relaxation is a technique in which you create an image filled with sight, taste, sound, touch and smell.  This relaxing image is used to replace upsetting thoughts and feelings and create a deep state of physical relaxation.
