What you eat is important – you will reap the benefits

What you eat is important because you need to be healthy and to have enough energy.

The benefits of eating a healthy diet, maintaining an appropriate body weight and being active are many.  Here are just 3 of the benefits that have been identified by commercial vehicle drivers.

1.     I will have more energy.
2.     A lower body weight will result in my clothes fitting better and my self-esteem will be boosted.
3.     I can reduce my risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Let’s put together a healthy meal

A “well-balanced diet” contains food from all four food groups from Canada’s Guide For Healthy Eating.  The four food groups are vegetables and fruit, grain products, milk products and alternatives and meat and alternatives.  Consistently omitting a food group from your diet means you are missing specific nutrients.  Try and select nutritious items when you shop.

Do you graze during the day?  Grazing means: a regular three meal a day pattern with healthy snacks every two to three hours.  Have at least one hot meal a day.

Next I’ll tell you about High Performance Nutrition.
